Cacti and Succulents have to be the ideal plant for this heat wave we are having. They thrive with sunshine, lack of water and are effortlessly beautiful. They can even be kept on a sunny patio in the summer months.
Cacti and Succulent care:
- Cacti and Succulents want to live in a warm and bright spot.
- Give them a good soak of water and then let them completely dry out! It is best to sit your plants in a saucer of water and them them soak it up. Watering from above can cause them to rot.
- Only re-pot when absolutely necessary. When re-potting, you must use cacti and succulent compost. This compost contains a good amount of sand and grit to aid drainage.
- Feed sparingly in the summer months.
‘Highly decorative, eye-catching and extremely easy to care for: there’s a lot to be said for succulents such as Echeveria, Crassula, Kalanchoe, Aeonium, Aloe, Haworthia and Rhipsalis. They’re all succulents, which means that they are able to store water in their roots, stems and thick leaves. This enables them to effortlessly cope with dry periods, so a relief for when you go on holiday. Succulents are particular popular because their unusual, sometimes freakish shapes, fit perfectly with the current trend to give botanicals a role in shaping the style in interiors.’ (Holland flower council)
